what where they thinking?
As I was cleaning last week I came across this postcard that I forgot all about.

The story is we were walking into the movie theater and on the ground were these white silhouettes of guns. (They were turned over so they were white) then I saw theses postcards advertising the movie with a cardboard gun that pops out. Is it just me or is this a strange promotion for a move?

Going Back
Hello or Bonjour - as we are getting packed and ready to head back to Brussels tomorrow here are a couple of my observations from our 3 weeks in the states.
(oh if you don't know, our computer died 2 days before we left and we got a new one just pray that it will work when we plug it in and we don't need belga com to come to our house cause it could be a long time)
When did the 16 oz sodas become 24 oz - do we really need sodas that big?
I finally go use to the highway signs in Europe stating the city as the direction to go - I have been all messed up driving here with North, South, East and West just tell me what city I'm heading towards.
Paying a lot of money for the doctor and vet visits - Brussels a exam and x-rays for Foxy was under 60 euros. I'm not even going to tell you how much that was here.
I have tried to eat as much yummy Mexican food as I could - the other food tasted like crap because my taste buds are very spoiled from Europe now.
I know there were more but my I can't remember right now.

It's the simple things...
You may never think about bobby pins you just put them in your hair or if you Joe they are a nuisance and he throws them away if they lay around the house to long.
The other day I had my hair in a ponytail and my bangs that I’m growing out pulled on the side and pinned back with Bobby Pins.
Soon after I boarded the bus and sat down I got a tap on my back, and turned around to see this little old lady sitting there. She started to rattle off something really really fast in French. I did not understand a word, so I thought she wanted me to push the button so she did not have to get up. “Non” she said as I reached up to push it. Then I got something about buying something still confused she said “vous parle Francais” “Oui, je parle un peau Francais” I said. As she was pointed to the back of my head, whipping my head around like a dog chasing its tail trying to figure out what she was pointing at. Finally I heard “where did you buy the clips in your hair” in perfect English. My responds “these bobby pins?” totally confused at her fascination with them…” I bought them in the USA” Come to find out she has been looking all over for bobby pins and thought the USA was too far for her to go and get them.
I quickly took all 3 out of my bangs and handed them to her saying “pour vous Madame”. She lit up like I had just given her a million dollars. “Oh Madame Do you have enough for your visit here?” She said “Oui, Madame j’habite ici maintenant et I have plenty.”
She dug in her purse and took out her coin purse and wanted to show me that she was safely putting them away like valuable loose diamonds. She was very cute.
As she departed the bus still graciously thanking me for the pins; I was thinking “I wish I had more with me to give her”.

Dessert any one…

Serves 4
Ingredients:
1 pound strawberries
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons sugar
1 cup mascarpone
Fresh mint – optional
1. Was the strawberries. Gently pat dry and hull all but 4 (reserve for decoration)
2. Mix the hulled strawberries, lemon juice, and sugar, and crush the strawberries slightly with a fork to release some juice.
3. In a separate bowl, beat the mascarpone with a whisk
4. Pour the strawberry soup into martini glasses, and top with a dollop of mascarpone. Decorate each glass with a strawberry and spring of mint.
5. ENJOY!

Scarf

My June find at the Waterloo Market is a Cartier foulard (scarf) in the box with the plastic certified card has a date on it of August 2007. The scarf was not even a year old when I got it for 25 euros. A bargain in my eyes, Joe quickly did the conversion of dollars to euros and groaned. I think he would have groaned more if I bought it retail!

Schtroumpf
The Schtroumpf will celebrate it’s 50th birthday/anniversary this year. You ask what is exactly is a Schtoumpf …It is a SMURF! You know the cute blue guys and one girl that lived under mushrooms. I'm collecting sticker that our grocery store is giving away in celebration.
They were created in Belgium in 1958 and were introduced to the US 1981.
From January to October 2008 smurfs will be smurfing countless European cities, wishing themselves a ‘Happy Smurfday!’ While everyone’s asleep, they will hide thousands of little white Smurfs around the city. Here is a link to the web site showing one of the cities they went to in Belgium…I wish I would have known about this sooner it looks and sounded like a lot of fun!!

Victory House

This apartment building in Place Flagey was built right before WWII and never had any occupants until the Germans soldiers invaded Brussels and then they moved in…then the UK and US came and kicked them out and they moved in.
It is so amazing to that this piece of history is close to us and I just found out about it on a tour around Flagey sponsored by La Cambre- Architecture students

Jet Lag
You know your jet lagged when...
You wake up at 12:30 am and half way to the bathroom you realize you have your flip-flops on the wrong feet
Your dog is wide eyed and busy tailed at 2:30 am
Your taking your dog outside at 3:00 am but half way down the hall way you realize you have your husbands platinum NWA card not the hotel card key.
You use shampoo instead of body lotion on your arms.
