l'albergo (the hotel)

We stayed at Hotel Flora in the San Marco area of Venice. It is a lovely little hotel with a rare courtyard of lush green vines and flowers in it.

We were very lucky to be able to have 2 of 4 of our yummy breakfasts in the courtyard. The funny man serving us warned us of the birds that like to eat croissants. Sure enough a little chick-a-dee landed on the table trying to get our food…then another one landed on Joe’s cereal bowl and quickly dunked his beak in and took some away. The man came running out chasing the birds away in a very feminine way which made me laugh. Just seeing him every morning singing and parading around was enough for me, but the fresh croissants, fresh fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice was the toping on the morning. I almost forgot they had the best hot chocolate I have ever had. I usually don’t get whip cream on my chocolate but there was a communication error and got cream with coco powder on it. Then the rest of the stay I requested it.

Behind the courtyard was a huge private house (yes I asked what the place behind us was) at night you really noticed it due to the extremely huge chandelier you could see all lit up. The man at the desk said the rest of the house was even more spectacular than the chandelier and would like just one room of the house for him. Of course he would not say who lived there.

You can see the lights on in the house behind the courtyard.

Everyone was extremely friendly & helpful and would stay there again. (Special note I booked it last May when the dollar was not so low against the euro and also we used mile to fly to Venice so my wonderful husband approve the extra cost of the hotel - I got the basic room but it had a view of the courtyard)

In a lot of cities in Italy the streets look like alleys - my dad in Florence kept saying are you sure this is a street I think we are in an alley.

I'm so happy you two are getting to see so much of Europe. As you know I was un-sure about you moving there in the beginning, but now I'm in awe of all you have seen and the fact that you like it so much. Treasure this time, not many people are able to live the kind of life you are experiencing, at the young age you are now.

That courtyard at the hotel looks so beautiful! I didn't know they had that much greenery in Venice.

The courtyard is the main reason i booked the hotel and wanted to be able to eat out there in nice weather.
